What We Do

We are a full service custom picture framing business with a focus on eco-friendly products and practices.  We offer a wide range of moldings and mats from the highest quality gold leaf closed corner frames to original reclaimed wood frames.  We repair and restore art and frames.  We also operate Second Story Art Gallery (located on the 2nd Floor of 78 First Ave, Atlantic Highlands).

Hand Crafted 22k Gold Leaf Frames

We carry an exquisite collection of the finest hand crafted 22k gold leaf frames including reproduction French, Spanish, Dutch and America frames.  Works of art in themselves, these are the frames to use for your valuable art and memorabilia.  Nothing comes close to the stunning finishes created by master craftsmen using traditional techniques developed over hundreds of years.

Gallery Approved!

Look for our grand opening in September!  Here’s a mock up of our new façade.  We’ll keep you posted on our progress as the time draws near.

Robert O’Connor wins Arts Leadership Award from MCAC

Community arts organizer, artist and owner of The Painted Frame, Robert O’Connor, was honored by the Monmouth County Arts Council on April 25th, 2013 and given the Community Arts Education Leadership Award “in recognition of his work creating FilmOneFest, a festival that has become an international celebration of the super short film and a snapshot of the creative image making happening online and across the world.”

Grand Opening Apr12th

Please join us for a ribbon cutting and reception on April 12th from 4-7pm.  Mayor Fred Rast will cut the ribbon at 4:30.

We moved!

We are finally operating out of our new location at 78 First Ave.  Our phone, internet and alarm were installed today and our compressor is up and running (it runs our mat cutter and underpinner) so we’re ready to frame again.

Please come and check out the new shop.  We will have a grand opening in mid April (exact date to be announced).

New Space Update – Feb 20

We’re almost there!  Renovations are almost complete in the retail space – the floors are done and we should be finished with the ceiling by the end of the week.  We’ve gotten in some new frames including finished corner samples from Gold Leaf Picture Frames and some extraordinary frames by Dennis Mathewson – these intricately carved frames have a gothic, biker aesthetic.  Truly unique.

New Space – Jan 1st

We are beginning renovations at 78 First Ave this week.  Our first task is to uncover the original wood floors that are currently covered with plywood and linoleum.  We will be taking lots of photos and posting our progress throughout the next couple of month.  Please follow us on Facebook to get the latest info (http://www.facebook.com/thepaintedframe)

Boxing Ring

We constructed a miniature boxing ring out of old barnwood and door hinge pins to display antique children’s boxing gloves and an unusual placard of a baby with boxing gloves (it says “I ain’t bluffin” on the bottom right).

Shop Small

Thank you for supporting local businesses. We provide jobs, add to the local economy and culture and attract visitors to our downtown.  And did you know that when you spend money at a small, local business, two thirds of your money stays in the local economy as opposed to chain stores where only 1/3 of your money remains local?  Help us make our community a wonderful place to live and shop small.

Reclaimed Wood Frames

The ultimate in eco-friendly, low carbon footprint framing – our very own reclaimed wood frames.  Constructed out of reclaimed wood from fencing, porches and old mouldings- this material would have ended up in a landfill if we had not rescued it and given it new life.  The wood bears the history of its travels with nail holes, scratches and nicks giving it a beautiful patina.
