Antique Fan repair

This project involved repairing a frame that contained a 19th century fan.  The client wanted to view the fan from both sides.  A previous framer had done a poor job on the back of the frame where globs of silicon were showing and framer’s points were exposed.  The client felt she could not display the fan as intended (viewable from both sides).  We removed the fan from its original frame, constructed an unobrtrusive mount out of conservation acrylic and sewed the fan to the mount.  We then covered the framer’s points and back of the moulding with a black, beveled mat. ...
